SANTA MARIA
The small fishing town of Santa Maria in Mozambique is at the end of the bay of Maputo. Traveling to Santa Maria from Maputo takes approximately 1 hour via boat transfer.
This humble harbor for the Machangulo peninsula has a few locals selling freshly caught fish alongside basic seasonal fresh produce.
Untouched and untamed! Santa Maria is surrounded by 3 incredible nature reserves and 2 marine reserves. Including The Machangulo Nature Reserve, The Maputo National Park, and Reserve Inhaca.
Inhaca and Portuguese Islands lie northwest within the bay.
The water temperatures range between 22 – 28 degrees Celcius all year round. Ideal for enjoying activities such as snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, tubing, and wakeboarding, to name a few.
Apart from this, the majestic humpback whale visits the bay from June until the end of September.
There are endless secluded white beaches alongside pristine and lush dune forests. Furthermore, it is one of the few picturesque destinations in Southern Africa, facing breathtaking sunsets.
No wonder some of the most sought-after holiday resorts in Mozambique can be found here.
