What to pack
Flip-flops complement the local style and are the only footwear you will need. Pack a few swimsuit options along with comfortable, light-weight cotton and linen clothing, such as:
- Tunic dress
- Dresses and skirts
- Sarongs/beach attire
- Silky Summer scarves
- Summer cardigan or jacket
Lounging around the pool with a wide-brim sunhat is the way to go, and trousers are ideal for wearing in the evenings to prevent mosquito bites on your ankles. The bright African sun bounces magically off the ocean, so remember one or two pairs of sunglasses.
If you visit us in the rainy season and enjoy a beach walk or bush stroll in the rain, include an umbrella and waterproof jacket.
During the cooler season, the evenings can get a little chilly. So, packing a warm jacket or two is advisable.
When you go on a safari in Maputo National Park, we recommend wearing natural colour attire. Brightly coloured clothing can distract the wildlife. If you blend in with the surroundings, the curious animals remain still and calm, making for exceptional viewing.
Bringing a pair of binoculars to zoom in is an excellent idea. Also, have a notepad and pen. You can write down the wildlife you spot to share with family and friends.
Finally, remember your sun hat and sunglasses.
When sorting out your toiletries, essential items include:
- Sun cream
- Mosquito repellent
Is Mozambique a malaria zone?
Machangulo is a low-risk malaria area due to its low population density and few mosquitos.
Many of our guests choose not to take preventative medication for Malaria. However, it is essential to know that Machangulo is a malaria region.

Food for Self-Catering Villas
If you book a self-catering beach villa, you will need to bring all your food with you.
You can get simple fruit and vegetables in the area. Yet, we recommend you bring along all the food you love to enjoy on holiday.
Look out for Pão, a traditional local bread. Freshly baked, it is delicious with butter and makes scrumptious bruschettas. So, take a moment and grab a few loaves on your arrival.
As our valued guests, we will happily assist with all your grocery shopping requirements. Simply provide us with your list, and we will deliver your groceries to your villa.
